Hillary Clinton Questioned in Closed-Door Epstein Investigation

House Oversight Committee members questioned former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton behind closed doors Thursday as part of their ongoing investigation into late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The deposition came after a six-month effort to get the Clintons to appear before the committee. Democrats on the committee said they want to talk to anyone who might have information about Epstein.

"We will talk to any single person, whether that is a Democrat, a Republican, how much wealth they have, how powerful their position is, we want to talk to anyone," said Rep. Robert Garcia, the committee's ranking Democrat. "So we're happy to be here, and we're glad that both Secretary Clinton and former President Clinton are willing to talk to this committee."

Republican Committee Chair James Comer said the Clintons initially agreed to appear but then didn't show up, leading the committee to move forward with contempt proceedings.  Comer said that most Democrats on the committee either voted to hold the Clintons in contempt or voted present, rather than breaking along party lines.

"I think that's a statement that this investigation is serious. It is a bipartisan investigation," Comer said. "The American people have a lot of questions."

The Clintons have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein and have not been accused of crimes in connection with him. Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to be deposed by the committee Friday.
