ICE Deportation Officers Now Receive Less Training Than Odometer Fraud Investigators

ICE deportation officers now receive just 42 days of training before heading into the field with guns and badges—less than half what they got during the Biden administration and less than most other federal agents, according to a new analysis.

The training is shorter than what odometer fraud investigators receive. It's also less than Bureau of Engraving and Printing police get.

Some experts with inside knowledge say the reduction could lead to deadly mistakes.

ICE says no essential content has been left out of the shortened program. The agency says training days now run 12 hours instead of eight, allowing the same material to be covered in fewer calendar days.

However, it's unclear when that change to 12-hour days might have happened. Whistleblower documents indicate the extended days were not the case recently.

Special agents who investigate potential national security threats receive much longer training, though they work in a different ICE division.
