NYPD Increases Security at Diplomatic and Religious Sites After Iran Conflict Escalation
The New York Police Department says it is increasing security at sensitive locations across the city following escalating tensions related to the conflict in Iran.
In a statement posted on X, the department said additional security measures are being put in place at diplomatic, cultural, religious and other relevant sites as a precaution.
According to three senior law enforcement officials who spoke with NBC News, there are currently no known plots or specific targeted threats tied to the overnight strikes against Iran. However, officials caution that the situation remains fluid and could change as developments unfold overseas.
Federal counterterrorism officials, including the FBI, have been closely examining potential risks in recent days. While there are no immediate threats identified within the United States, authorities say vigilance remains critical.
Officials noted that US interests and allied nations located closer to Iran in the Middle East and Europe may face a more immediate threat due to geographic proximity and the regime’s ability to respond more quickly in those regions.
Law enforcement agencies across the country continue to monitor intelligence and coordinate with federal partners as part of ongoing security assessments.
