Southern California Demonstrators Rally Saturday Feb 28 in Westwood After Iran Supreme Leader Killed
Crowds gathered Saturday, Feb. 28, outside the federal building in Westwood as members of Southern California’s Iranian community reacted to news that Iran’s supreme leader was killed in US-Israel strikes.
The demonstration drew people from across the region, many with personal ties to Iran. Southern California is home to the largest Iranian population outside of Iran, with many families settling in the area after fleeing the 1979 revolution.
Some participants described the moment as deeply emotional, sharing stories of relatives who experienced persecution under the Iranian government. Others expressed hope that the development could mark a turning point for the country’s future.
Demonstrators said they want political change and the opportunity for Iranians to determine their own leadership. Some spoke of family members still living in Tehran and their hopes for freedom and stability.
The gathering also followed months of unrest in Iran, including economic turmoil and protests that have drawn international attention. Many at the rally said they were watching closely to see what comes next.
For those in attendance, the demonstration was both a moment of reflection and a call for change, as the community responded to what many described as a historic shift in the region.
