Controversy Surrounds Tropicale in Palm Springs After Social Media Video Sparks Debate

A Palm Springs restaurant is at the center of controversy after a social media video posted by a group of women claimed they were left uncomfortable by a comment allegedly made by a staff member.

The incident reportedly happened at Tropicale during a bachelorette weekend visit. One of the women says a waiter made a comment from behind them that left the group feeling uneasy and speechless. She later shared her experience in a Yelp review and on social media.

According to the bride-to-be, when the group attempted to clarify what was said, they felt their concerns were not addressed.

Tropicale owner Tony De Lembo says the alleged interaction was never logged or reported to management at the time. He also responded to the Yelp review, writing that the situation did not occur as described and defending his staff. In his response, he suggested the group “grow up” and said they should be “thrilled” if someone found them attractive.

De Lembo told NBC Palm Springs that his employees deny making the comment. He added that even if something similar had been said, he does not believe it would rise to the level described.

The situation has since sparked online calls to boycott the restaurant. However, the bride says the goal of sharing the experience was not to harm the business, but to encourage accountability and a more understanding response.

Both parties agree they have not spoken further about the matter since the incident last Friday.
