HBO Max and Paramount+ to Merge Into Single Streaming Platform After Warner Bros. Discovery Deal

A major shakeup in the streaming industry is on the way as Paramount prepares to combine HBO Max and Paramount+ into a single platform following its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Paramount CEO David Ellison announced the plan during the company’s first investor call since securing the merger. He said the combined streaming service will bring together the companies’ direct-to-consumer platforms into one unified offering over the coming years.

Together, the two services currently reach more than 200 million subscribers across more than 100 countries and territories. However, that number is expected to decrease somewhat after the merger due to overlapping subscribers who already use both platforms.

The move marks one of the most significant consolidations in the ongoing streaming wars. A combined service would unite some of television and film’s most recognizable franchises — including HBO’s Game of Thrones and The Sopranos alongside Paramount’s Yellowstone and Star Trek universes.

No name has been announced for the new streaming platform. The integration is expected to bring yet another rebrand for Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming business, which has already undergone several name changes in recent years.

As part of the broader merger, Paramount will also acquire CNN. Company leaders say there are currently no plans to sell off cable assets, though it remains unclear how CNN’s streaming offerings will be handled once the platforms combine.
