Instagram to Alert Parents When Teens Search for Suicide Content
Instagram will start notifying parents if their teenagers repeatedly search for suicide-related content on the platform.
The alerts are "designed to give parents the information they need to support their teen," Meta said in a statement. The company owns Instagram.
Users have to opt in to be eligible for the alerts, which will start rolling out next week in the United States, Britain, Australia, and Canada.
The move comes as Meta defends itself in trials where plaintiffs claim the company's platforms have caused harm to young users. Instagram says its platform is not clinically addictive.
