Major Road Work and Tennis Tournament Traffic This Week in Coachella Valley
It's the start of the work week again, and if you want to avoid that heavy traffic on your commute, then listen up because it's time for Know Before You Go, with CV Sync Traffic Program Manager Kris Gunterson.
Indio: Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard Lane Closure
Crews continue work on intersection improvements at Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard in Indio, and the eastbound side of Indio Boulevard is down to one lane through the end of March. Expect slowdowns if you're getting off the freeway and heading that direction, Gunterson says. If you're stuck in traffic at Jefferson and Avenue 42, don't block the intersection—make sure there's room before you enter. To avoid the congestion altogether, use Washington or Monroe to access the freeway, or take Fred Waring east and west.
Indian Wells: BNP Paribas Open Tournament Traffic
The BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament runs through March 15th in Indian Wells, and that means heavy traffic on southbound Washington Street and Highway 111 at Miles Avenue. The busiest times will be 9:30 am to 12:30 pm when people arrive, and 4:30 pm to 6 pm when day sessions end and evening sessions begin—though match play could shift those times. Plan ahead and give yourself extra time if you're driving through Indian Wells during the tournament.
Palm Springs: South Palm Canyon Bridge Traffic Switch
Traffic on South Palm Canyon Drive shifts onto the newly reconstructed western bridge span across Tahquitz Creek today. Both northbound and southbound traffic will continue with one lane in each direction, and all turning movements at South Palm Canyon Drive and East Sunny Dunes Road remain available. The eastern bridge span will close for reconstruction while vehicles and pedestrians use the new western span. Business access stays open on South Palm Canyon Drive. Follow posted signage and pavement markings as you adjust to the new configuration, and allow extra travel time. The recommended alternate route is Belardo Road.
