Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Exceeding Expectations, Projected to Generate $40 Million Annually

A newly released report from the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation shows the restored venue is already exceeding economic expectations.

According to the report, 66 percent of ticket buyers are traveling from out of town, bringing a significant boost to the local economy. The theater is now projected to generate $40 million annually in economic impact, along with an estimated $4 million each year in tax benefits for the City of Palm Springs.

Hotel partners are already feeling the ripple effect. Hotel Zoso and the Thompson Palm Springs both report a rise in bookings, with multiple weekends selling out as theater events draw visitors to the city.

In just its first 90 days, the venue has hosted 94 events — a pace that underscores strong demand and community interest. Performers have included Cynthia Erivo, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Lynch, bringing nationally recognized talent to the downtown stage.

Beyond touring artists, the Plaza Theatre is also serving as a cultural home for local organizations, including the Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus and the Palm Springs Symphony.

City leaders and foundation officials say the early numbers demonstrate that the restoration is not only a cultural investment but an economic one as well.
