California Gas Prices Surge Far Above National Average, Squeezing Coachella Valley Drivers

Drivers across California are feeling extra pain at the pump as fuel prices continue to outpace the rest of the country. According to American Automobile Association, the national average for a gallon of regular gas sits near $3.10, while California’s statewide average has climbed to roughly $4.67. In Riverside County, prices are hovering around $4.60 per gallon, leaving many commuters frustrated.

At a station in Palm Desert, drivers said the steady increases are cutting into already tight budgets, especially for those who rely on daily travel for work and family responsibilities. Some residents expressed surprise at how quickly prices have risen in recent weeks.

AAA representatives say supply constraints are playing a major role. Recent refinery shutdowns in California have limited production, while ongoing conflicts in the Middle East continue to influence global oil markets, adding further upward pressure. Prices have jumped about 30 cents over the past month alone, including a five-cent increase in just the last week.

While market conditions may shift in the coming months, analysts warn that volatility could continue. For now, many local drivers say they’re simply hoping for relief as higher fuel costs ripple through everyday expenses.
