Cathedral City Police Investigate Officer Shooting After Stabbing

CATHEDRAL CITY (CNS) - Two people were hospitalized following an
officer-involved shooting in Cathedral City and today police are investigating
the circumstances that led to the shooting.
Officers from the Cathedral City Police Department received a 911 call
regarding an assault with a deadly weapon on Via Minorca in the Date Palm
Country Club at 7:08 p.m. Monday.
According to the caller, a person they knew forced their way into the
residence and stabbed one of the occupants, said Cmdr. Jon Enos.
When they arrived at the scene, the officers found the suspect armed
with a weapon standing outside the residence. Shortly after, an officer-
involved shooting occurred, police said.
The officer involved in the shooting is a 13-year veteran of law
enforcement. He will be placed on administrative leave pending the
investigations, Enos said.
Police recovered a weapon at the scene. Cathedral City Fire Department
personnel responded to the scene and took the suspect and the victim to a
hospital for treatment.
Cathedral City detectives arrived at the scene to investigate the
initial assault. The Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigation Detail also
came to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
The Cathedral City Police Department's Professional Standards Bureau
will conduct an internal investigation to determine whether any policy
violations occurred, Enos said.
No officers were injured during this shooting.
