Driver Remains at Large After Fleeing Border Patrol and Abandoning Car in Indio

Authorities are searching for a driver who remains at large after allegedly fleeing Border Patrol agents and abandoning a vehicle in Indio.

According to the Indio Police Department, officers responded just before 7:30 Tuesday morning to reports of a reckless driver on Monroe Street near Avenue 42.

Callers reported seeing an Infiniti sedan driving on the wrong side of the road, raising concerns for public safety.

Officers later located the vehicle abandoned on Galindo Court, but no occupants were found inside.

Investigators say the same vehicle had previously fled from Border Patrol during an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Jackson Street.

Indio police emphasized that their officers were not assisting in federal immigration enforcement. Instead, they say their response was strictly related to the reckless driving report and ensuring the safety of the public.

Authorities have not released a description of the driver, and the investigation is ongoing as officers continue working to determine who was behind the wheel.
