Officer-Involved Shooting in Cathedral City Leaves Suspect Dead After Reported Home Invasion Stabbing

An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Cathedral City left a suspect dead Monday evening.

According to the Cathedral City Police Department, officers responded around 7 p.m. to reports of an assault at the Date Palm Country Club community.

Police say the caller reported that a suspect had forced their way into a home and stabbed one of the occupants. The caller also told authorities they knew the suspect.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect standing outside the home and armed with a weapon. During the encounter, an officer opened fire.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and died at the scene.

The victim who was stabbed was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say the victim has since been released.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting. An internal investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials have not yet released the names of those involved as the investigation continues.
