Palm Desert High Hosts “Meet at the 50” Literacy Celebration

Palm Desert High School hosted its second annual “Meet at the 50” literacy celebration, creating a full-circle moment for students across grade levels.

Kindergartners from Ronald Reagan, James Carter, and Abraham Lincoln Elementary Schools, along with Washington Charter School, gathered on the Aztec football field to meet their 480 senior partners at the 50-yard line. Each kindergartner received a new book through the Riverside County Office of Education “Read With Me” program before sitting down to read side by side with their high school mentors.

Organizers say the event is designed to highlight mentorship, literacy, and the journey students take from their first day of school to graduation.

School leaders noted the emotional impact of the event, saying seniors often feel nostalgic as they reflect on their own early school days while preparing to transition into adulthood.
