Palm Springs Police Increase Patrol Awareness as Middle East Tensions Rise; Edison Drones Inspecting Power Lines

With tensions rising overseas and concerns growing at home, the Palm Springs Police Department says it is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety across the city.

Police officials say patrol teams and intelligence partners are paying close attention to religious sites, cultural locations, and other community gathering spaces that could draw concern during times of heightened international conflict.

Authorities emphasize there are currently no known credible threats to Palm Springs. Still, the department says it is being transparent with residents about preventative measures and increased awareness among officers.

Police are encouraging both residents and visitors to remain aware of their surroundings and to report anything suspicious to law enforcement.

Meanwhile, people in Palm Desert may notice helicopters or drones flying in the area over the coming weeks. Southern California Edison says the aircraft are being used to inspect power lines and other electrical infrastructure.

Crews will be examining poles, towers, electrical equipment, and other essential systems to identify potential hazards and prevent outages.

Edison officials say the inspections are routine but important for maintaining safe and reliable power service. While the company did not provide specific dates or times for the inspections, individual drone operations can last between 30 minutes and one hour.
