BNP Paribas Open Begins in Indian Wells with Packed Crowds and Star-Studded Field

The BNP Paribas Open is officially underway in Indian Wells, and the atmosphere inside “Tennis Paradise” is already electric as fans pour into the tournament grounds.

Despite being early in the tournament schedule, large crowds packed the venue as spectators gathered to watch players practice and prepare for the first rounds of competition.

The tournament features a star-studded lineup on both the men’s and women’s sides.

On the men’s side, the draw includes world number one Carlos Alcaraz along with tennis legend Novak Djokovic and Italy’s Jannik Sinner.

The women’s bracket also features top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka, reigning champion Mirra Andreeva, and tennis icon Venus Williams.

While many top-ranked players receive a first-round bye, fans have still been able to catch close-up views of the sport’s biggest stars during practice sessions.

Players say the setting in Indian Wells is one of the biggest draws of the tournament. With sunny weather, scenic desert surroundings, and world-class facilities, the event has earned its nickname “Tennis Paradise.”

Athletes say the relaxed atmosphere and the option to stay in local homes instead of hotels also help make the tournament unique on the professional tennis tour.

However, travel issues have affected some players heading into the event. Reports indicate several Russian players expected to compete were temporarily stranded in Dubai due to travel disruptions.

Officials say those players are now traveling to the Coachella Valley and are expected to compete, though some missed scheduled practice sessions.

The BNP Paribas Open runs through March 15 in Indian Wells.
