Coachella Valley High School Girls Soccer Team Gets Hero's Send-Off Before State Championship Run

UPDATE: Coachella Valley defeated Ramona 3-2 on Tuesday and will host the CIF state semifinal game on Thursday at home at 5 p.m.

Hundreds gathered at Coachella Valley High School Tuesday for a celebration and send-off as the girls varsity soccer team hit the road to chase a state championship.

The team made history last Saturday by winning the CIF Southern Section title—the first girls soccer team in the desert to do so since 2019. It's also the first CIF title of any kind for Coachella Valley High School since the boys soccer team won in 2007, nearly two decades ago.

Students, faculty, city officials, and parents lined up outside with signs and noisemakers to support the team. District board members and families said the girls have already made their community proud.

Before the send-off, district and school officials addressed the players and students about what the team has accomplished. Head Coach Francisco Morales finished the speeches with a clear message: the job is not finished.

The team now heads to the state championship tournament.
