Former Congresswoman Katie Porter Files to Run for California Governor, Will Appear on June Ballot

Former Congresswoman Katie Porter has officially entered the race for California governor, filing the necessary paperwork at the Orange County Registrar’s Office to appear on the June ballot.

Porter, a Democrat who previously represented Orange County in Congress, is launching what she calls a campaign focused on lowering costs for Californians, advancing progressive priorities, and pushing back against federal policies she believes could impact the state.

If elected in November, Porter would become the first woman to serve as governor of California.

According to her campaign, Porter currently leads Democratic candidates in some early polling and has built a growing grassroots coalition of supporters across the state.

Her campaign recently received endorsements from the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, along with several other labor unions. Additional supporters include Senator Elizabeth Warren and California Representatives Dave Min and Derek Tran, among other organizations.

Porter has also emphasized her fundraising approach, noting that she does not accept corporate donations. Her campaign says the average contribution from supporters is about $68, coming from tens of thousands of donors across every county in California.

The gubernatorial race is expected to draw significant attention as candidates begin campaigning ahead of the statewide primary election in June.
