Governor Gavin Newsom’s Memoir “Young Man in a Hurry” Tops Bestseller List with Nearly 100,000 Copies Sold
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry,” is off to a strong start, selling nearly 100,000 copies through presales and its first week of release.
According to USA Today, the book is currently the number one selling nonfiction title in the United States. The memoir was also named one of the “Most Anticipated Books of 2026” by The New York Times.
State officials say more than 91,000 copies were sold through organic, non-bulk purchases across both in-person and online retailers nationwide. The book quickly climbed bestseller lists within hours of its release as readers showed strong interest in Newsom’s personal story and political journey.
In a statement, Newsom said he was grateful for the response from readers.
“I’m humbled and grateful to everyone who picked up the book and engaged with this deeply personal story of discovery, grief, growth and pain,” Newsom said. “This book reflects on the people and moments that shaped my life — from family and failure to public service — and the lesson that our journeys are rarely linear.”
“Young Man in a Hurry” explores Newsom’s upbringing in the Bay Area and traces his path through early entrepreneurial ventures, his tenure as Mayor of San Francisco during the Great Recession, and his time as governor during some of California’s most significant recent challenges.
The memoir also reflects on lessons learned through setbacks, the influence of mentors and family, and Newsom’s perspective on the future of California and the nation.
The book is available at major bookstores nationwide and through online retailers.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
