House Oversight Committee Votes to Subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi in Epstein Files Investigation

The House Oversight Committee has voted to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi as part of its ongoing investigation into the release of Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

The Republican-led panel approved the subpoena in a 24-19 vote, with support from lawmakers in both parties. Republican Representative Nancy Mace introduced the motion during a hearing, and several Republicans joined Democrats in backing the measure.

Committee leaders say the subpoena is part of a broader investigation into how the Department of Justice handled and released investigative files connected to Epstein, the late financier who was convicted of sex offenses involving minors.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have criticized the Justice Department’s release of the documents so far, arguing that the files contained heavy redactions and did not provide the level of transparency Congress expected.

Last year, Congress passed legislation requiring the Justice Department to publicly release its investigative files related to Epstein. The Oversight Committee is now seeking testimony from several high-profile figures to better understand how the documents were handled.

The committee announced Tuesday that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has agreed to appear before lawmakers at a future date as part of the same investigation. The panel has also requested voluntary testimony from several other individuals.

Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told members he had spoken with Bondi’s chief of staff ahead of the vote. According to Comer, Bondi had offered to brief committee members in smaller groups regarding the Justice Department’s Epstein files.

It is not yet clear when Bondi could appear before the committee if the subpoena moves forward.
