First Round Action Wraps Up at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells

First-round play at the BNP Paribas Open is wrapping up tonight at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, with several players securing spots in the next round of the prestigious desert tournament.

Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov advanced after a three-set victory over Terence Atmane, recording 10 aces and 31 winners. The win also served as redemption after Dimitrov’s loss to the French player just eight days earlier in Acapulco. Dimitrov now moves on to face world number one Carlos Alcaraz for a spot in the third round.

On the women’s side, American Taylor Townsend continued her strong run after reaching the singles final in Austin last week. Townsend defeated Marie Bouzková in straight sets, marking her 11th match win in just 10 days. She will face 28th seed Marta Kostyuk in the second round.

Another American advancing is Ashlyn Krueger, the 21-year-old from Texas who defeated Magda Linette with 22 winners. Krueger will next take on Liudmila Samsonova.

Fans can watch continuing coverage of the tournament through the Tennis Channel, which is broadcasting matches throughout the competition. NBC Palm Springs has also partnered with the network to bring daily highlights of the tournament to local evening newscasts.
