Palm Desert Cannabis Shop Funds Young Black Race Car Drivers Through New Product Line

A Palm Desert cannabis dispensary is using its business to help support the next generation of Black race car drivers.

Royal Highness in Palm Desert has launched a new product line with a unique mission — helping fund opportunities for young African Americans looking to break into motorsports.

Owner Kiva says the idea came after her son began racing a few years ago. As she became more involved in the sport, she quickly realized just how expensive it can be and how few Black drivers are represented on the track.

Motorsports often require significant financial backing for equipment, training, and travel, which can make it difficult for many families to participate.

To help address that barrier, Kiva created a line of cannabis vape products and pledged the profits toward supporting youth motorsports, including helping fund her son’s racing career and assisting other young Black drivers pursuing the sport.

She says the lack of diversity in youth racing programs became clear when attending competitions, where only a small number of participants were African American among hundreds of racers.

Kiva hopes the initiative will help provide more opportunities for talented young drivers who may not otherwise have access to the sport.

While the combination of racing and cannabis products may seem unusual, she says the mission is simple — helping fuel the next generation of drivers and bringing more diversity to motorsports.
