Smithsonian Acquires Historic Superman and Captain America Comic Books
Two of the most important comic books in history are heading to the Smithsonian Institution for public display.
The museum recently announced it has acquired Action Comics No. 1, the landmark 1938 issue that introduced the world to Superman and helped launch the superhero genre during the Golden Age of comics.
Also joining the collection is Captain America Comics No. 1, famous for its cover showing Captain America punching Nazi leader Adolf Hitler — months before the United States officially entered World War II.
Officials say the issues are culturally and historically significant, representing both the birth of the superhero era and the role comic books played in shaping American pop culture and wartime messaging.
