Daylight Saving Time Begins This Weekend

A reminder to set your clocks ahead this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins.

At 2 a.m. on Sunday, clocks will “spring forward” one hour, meaning many people will lose an hour of sleep overnight. While most smartphones and digital devices automatically adjust, traditional clocks will need to be set manually.

The annual time change is intended to make better use of daylight and conserve energy. However, medical experts say the shift can temporarily disrupt sleep patterns and increase fatigue.

Health professionals warn that the sudden loss of sleep can lead to a higher risk of accidents and may even place additional stress on the body, with studies showing small increases in heart attacks and strokes immediately following the time change.

To prepare, experts recommend gradually adjusting your bedtime by about 15 to 20 minutes in the days leading up to the switch and getting sunlight exposure in the morning to help regulate the body’s internal clock.

Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect until November, when clocks “fall back” one hour as the time change ends.
