Israel Expands Strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon as Iran War Intensifies

As the war involving Iran continues to unfold, Israel has intensified military operations against Hezbollah across Lebanon, raising concerns that the conflict could further spread across the region.
Israeli forces have carried out hundreds of strikes targeting Hezbollah positions from northern Lebanon to the southern border. Lebanese authorities say the attacks have killed more than 200 people, injured hundreds more, and displaced large numbers of residents.
Israel says the strikes are aimed at weakening Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group that has long operated along Israel’s northern border.
The latest fighting began after the United States and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran earlier in the week. Shortly afterward, Hezbollah fired missiles and drones at a military base in northern Israel, prompting a broader Israeli military response.
Israel has called up more than 100,000 reservists and expanded operations near the Lebanese border. Officials say additional military options, including a possible ground invasion, remain under consideration.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah dates back decades and includes a month-long war in 2006 that ended without a decisive outcome. Since then, Hezbollah has built a large arsenal of rockets, missiles, and drones.
Israeli leaders say their goal now is to significantly weaken Hezbollah’s military capabilities and eliminate threats along the northern border.
However, analysts say completely dismantling the group may be difficult, and Hezbollah has signaled it will continue fighting.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s government has said it does not want the country drawn further into the conflict and has called for steps to prevent additional escalation.
