Parents Raise Concerns After Classroom Cleaning and Student Relocation at Oasis Elementary in Thermal
Parents at Oasis Elementary School in Thermal are raising concerns after students were temporarily relocated from certain classrooms following a deep cleaning at the campus.
According to the Coachella Valley Unified School District, the cleaning took place Wednesday after school hours. District officials say the products used were appropriate for classroom and school environments.
As a precaution, students from the affected classrooms were moved to other rooms while officials ensured the area was safe.
However, the situation left some parents worried after they noticed vehicles from a restoration and cleaning company outside the campus when picking up their children Thursday afternoon.
Some parents said there was confusion about what was happening and are asking the district to provide clearer communication.
One parent told NBC Palm Springs they want the district to be transparent about the situation and explain what steps are being taken moving forward.
District officials say the fire department visited the school Thursday and confirmed the buildings were safe.
The deep cleaning at Oasis Elementary comes after the district previously reported toxic mold findings at two other Thermal schools, John Kelly Elementary School and Desert Mirage High School.
