Riverside County Shelters Seek Help After Rescue of 60+ Dogs From House Fire

Animal shelters in Riverside County are urgently asking for community assistance after rescuing more than 60 small dogs from a house fire near Hemet.

The dogs were taken to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, which is now operating at more than 270% of its intended capacity with over 400 animals currently on site.

Shelter teams and veterinarians worked quickly to provide medical care for the rescued animals while also preparing additional space to handle the emergency intake.

Officials say the public can help relieve the overcrowding by adopting pets, donating to the shelter, or sharing information about animals that need homes.

To encourage adoptions, shelter leaders say adoption fees are currently waived. The free adoptions include spay or neuter services, vaccinations, and microchips for the animals.
