U.S. Intelligence: Russia Providing Iran With Information on American Military Targets

U.S. intelligence officials say Russia is providing Iran with information about the locations and movements of American military forces as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies.

According to multiple sources familiar with intelligence reporting, Russia has shared data about U.S. troops, ships, and aircraft with Iranian officials. Some of that information reportedly comes from satellite imagery collected by Russia’s network of surveillance satellites.

Officials say it is not yet clear whether any specific Iranian attack can be directly linked to the intelligence Russia provided. However, recent Iranian drone strikes have hit locations where U.S. troops were stationed.

One such strike occurred in Kuwait earlier this week, when an Iranian drone hit a temporary U.S. military facility, killing six American service members.

The reported intelligence sharing marks the first indication that Russia may be playing a more active role in the conflict.

U.S. intelligence officials are also monitoring potential support from China. Sources say China may be considering providing Iran with financial assistance, spare parts, and missile components.

However, analysts say China appears to be acting more cautiously, largely because of its dependence on Iranian oil and concerns that the war could disrupt energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

Russia and Iran have strengthened military cooperation in recent years, particularly around drone and missile technology. Iran has supplied Russia with drones used in the war in Ukraine, while Russia has reportedly provided assistance related to Iran’s nuclear and defense programs.

The United States currently has more than 50,000 troops, over 200 fighter jets, and two aircraft carriers involved in the military operation against Iran.

Pentagon officials say the mission’s goal is to significantly weaken Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and limit its ability to advance its nuclear program.
