Trump Says He’s Not Concerned Whether Iran Becomes a Democracy

President Donald Trump says he is not focused on whether Iran ultimately becomes a democratic state, instead emphasizing that any future leadership should treat the United States and Israel fairly.

In a phone interview with CNN, Trump said Iran’s leadership has been “neutered” following recent military actions and suggested the country could soon see new leadership.

“Iran is not the same country it was a week ago,” Trump said, expressing confidence that a new leader could be selected who would maintain better relations with the United States and its allies.

When asked whether he believes Iran should become a democracy, Trump said that was not his primary concern. Instead, he said the goal is leadership that will be “fair and just” and cooperate with other countries in the Middle East.

Trump also indicated he would be open to a religious leader taking power in Iran if that leader governed effectively and maintained good relationships with the United States and Israel.

The president compared the situation to developments in Venezuela earlier this year, suggesting that leadership changes in Iran could come quickly.

Trump also addressed rising gas prices tied to the conflict, dismissing concerns about long-term economic impact. He said the increase would likely be temporary and predicted prices would eventually decline.

During the same interview, Trump also predicted political changes in Cuba, saying the country could “fall pretty soon,” though he said the administration’s current focus remains on the ongoing conflict with Iran.
