Uber Rolls Out “Women Preferences” Feature Nationwide Allowing Riders to Request Female Drivers

In consumer news, Uber is expanding a new feature designed to give riders more choice and comfort when requesting rides.

The rideshare company has rolled out its “Women Preferences” option nationwide, allowing women riders to request female drivers through the app.

The feature was first introduced last August in a handful of pilot cities and later expanded to additional markets. Now, Uber says the option will be available across the United States.

Under the new setting, women riders can indicate a preference for female drivers when booking a trip. While Uber says the company cannot guarantee a female driver every time, the feature increases the likelihood of matching riders with women drivers when they are available nearby.

The option is also being expanded to cities where Uber Teen accounts are available. In those locations, teen riders and their guardians can choose the same preference when requesting rides.

Uber says the new feature is aimed at improving safety and comfort for riders while also supporting women drivers who prefer transporting female passengers.

The company notes that the program is part of broader efforts to improve safety tools and rider options within the app.
