Clay Fuller and Shawn Harris Head to Runoff in Georgia Race to Replace Marjorie Taylor Greene

Clay Fuller and Shawn Harris Head to Runoff in Georgia Race to Replace Marjorie Taylor Greene

Republican Clay Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris will compete in a runoff election to fill the congressional seat left vacant by former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.

The April 7 runoff comes after a crowded field of candidates failed to produce an outright winner in the special election. Fuller, a former district attorney, surged to the top of the Republican field after receiving an endorsement from Donald Trump earlier this year.

Fuller said during the campaign that he would support the president’s agenda in Congress and emphasized his commitment to aligning with the administration’s policies.

Despite the endorsement, the large number of Republican candidates prevented Fuller from securing enough votes to win the seat outright.

On the Democratic side, retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Shawn Harris emerged as the party’s leading candidate. Harris previously challenged Greene in the 2024 election but lost by nearly 30 percentage points.

Harris has framed the special election as an opportunity to flip the district, focusing his campaign on economic issues and positioning himself as a political outsider.

The Georgia district strongly favored Trump in the 2024 presidential election, where he carried the area by roughly 37 percentage points. Because of that margin, Republicans are expected to have an advantage heading into the runoff.

The winner of the April election will serve the remainder of Greene’s term, which runs through January.
