Find Food Bank CEO Debbie Espinosa Shares Story of Leadership and Resilience During Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the women who inspire change and make a difference in their communities. In the Coachella Valley, one of those leaders is Debbie Espinosa, President and CEO of Find Food Bank.
Inside the Find Food Bank warehouse, pallets of food are constantly moving as the organization works to provide meals to families across the region. Overseeing that operation is Espinosa, who has led the nonprofit for the past eight years.
Espinosa says she is grateful for the women who paved the way for her leadership.
“There’s been a lot of women that have broken the glass ceilings before me,” Espinosa said. “I love being able to speak on behalf of the people that are food insecure in order to give them a voice.”
Her passion for the mission comes from her own life experiences. Espinosa spent more than a decade as a single mother raising two daughters while balancing a professional career.
She says those experiences help her better understand the challenges many families face.
“Being a single mom trying to make ends meet on one income helped me relate to many of the families who come to us for support,” Espinosa said.
Espinosa has also faced personal challenges while leading the organization. During a recent 18-month period, she battled breast cancer while continuing to guide the food bank through a major $125 million capital campaign to expand its warehouse.
She says that experience reminded her that strength also means accepting help from others.
Today, Espinosa is one of the few women leading a food bank of this size in California. Through her work, Find Food Bank provides millions of meals each year to families across the Coachella Valley, with a mission focused on ensuring no family goes hungry.
