Broadway’s “Chicago” Dazzles the Desert Stage at Rancho Mirage Amphitheater

Broadway is heading to the desert as Desert Theatricals brings the iconic musical Chicago to the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater, promising audiences an unforgettable night of dazzling choreography, show-stopping music, and a story packed with scandal and showbiz.

NBC Palm Springs’ Mary Strong sat down with Desert Theatricals Managing Director Joshua Carr and performer Tomasina Abate to talk about the highly anticipated production.

Carr says bringing Chicago to the desert stage felt like a natural fit for the season. The legendary Broadway show, known for its sharp wit, jazz-inspired score, and timeless themes of fame and ambition, has remained a favorite with audiences around the world for decades.

Abate takes on the role of Velma Kelly, one of the most iconic characters in musical theater. She says stepping into the role is both thrilling and challenging, especially with the show’s demanding choreography and powerful musical numbers. Abate adds that audiences can expect an energetic and visually striking performance that stays true to the spirit of the beloved production.

The outdoor setting at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater also adds something special to the experience. Carr says the venue creates a unique atmosphere where theater and the desert landscape come together, allowing audiences to enjoy world-class musical theater under the stars.

From fan-favorite songs to memorable dance numbers, the production features plenty of standout moments. Both Carr and Abate say they are excited for audiences to experience the full spectacle live on stage.
