Svitolina Upsets Świątek as Semifinals Set at Indian Wells

The semifinals are set at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden after a quarterfinal Thursday that delivered upsets and dominant performances heading into the final weekend.

Elena Rybakina advanced with a straight-sets win over American Jessica Pegula, closing out the victory in a second-set tiebreak. The 2023 Indian Wells champion has now won 11 straight matches against top-ten opponents and is within two wins of a second title in the desert. She faces Elina Svitolina for a spot in the final, after the Ukrainian pulled off the day's biggest result, beating two-time champion Iga Świątek in three sets. It's Svitolina's 19th match win this season, more than any other woman on the WTA Tour, and her first semifinal at Indian Wells in seven years. "Today was a really tough match. Iga always brings a bit extra out of me," Svitolina said. "I had to really push myself to close that match and I'm very happy with the way I stayed mentally in that third set."

On the men's side, Daniil Medvedev took care of defending champion Jack Draper to reach the semifinals for the fourth time in his career at Indian Wells, fresh off his recent title in Dubai. He'll face Carlos Alcaraz, who won his quarterfinal on Stadium One to remain unbeaten in 2026.
