Sabalenka and Rybakina Set for Indian Wells Final Sunday
The women's final is set at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden after Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina powered through their semifinals Friday.
Sabalenka was ruthless against Linda Nosková, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the opener and never looking back. The world No. 1 fired 11 aces and 37 winners in a straight-sets win, closing it out 6-4 in just under an hour and a half. It's her third Indian Wells final in four years, though she's lost the last two. "Last couple of finals I lost here, so I'll make sure that I'm more than ready on Sunday and I'll bring my best tennis," Sabalenka said. "Make sure that this is the year."
Rybakina advanced past Elina Svitolina in straight sets, edging the opener 7-5 before pulling away in the second. The win extends her streak to 12 consecutive victories against top-ten opponents. She was candid about her performance, saying, "I started a bit slow and I definitely need to get better for the final, but I'm super happy that in the end I managed to win."
The two met in the Australian Open final back in January, with Rybakina coming out on top. Sunday's championship match promises a rematch worth watching.
