Thermal Woman Identified as Victim in Fatal Head-On Collision

The victim killed in Friday's head-on collision in Thermal has been identified as Daysi Olivas, 25, of Thermal.

The crash was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on the 58000 block of Fillmore Street. According to California Highway Patrol Officer David Torres, a Honda Accord carrying a male driver, Olivas, and a juvenile was heading southbound on Fillmore when it veered into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound Toyota Camry driven by a male driver.

Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived to find major damage to both vehicles. The two drivers were taken to area hospitals by ambulance, while Olivas and the juvenile were airlifted to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, where Olivas later died. 

Fillmore Street was closed in both directions for an undetermined period following the crash.
