Know Before You Go — March 16, 2025

Joining us live from the CV Traffic Management Center in Thousand Palms, CV Sync Traffic Program Manager Kris Gunterson is back with this week's Know Before You Go. With the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on the horizon, Gunterson says crews are pushing hard to finish up major projects, and drivers should plan ahead now.

Cathedral City: East Palm Canyon Widening Near Van Fleet

A widening project at East Palm Canyon near Van Fleet has westbound traffic squeezed down to one lane. This is a Tribal Nations project tied to a new gas station development near the Agau Caliente Casino, and Gunterson says paving is expected to begin sometime this week, so expect it to get busier through this stretch.

The completion deadline is April 3. To avoid the slowdown, use Date Palm Drive and Perez Road to get around the construction zone.

Indio: Jefferson Street at Indio Boulevard

Road improvements at Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard have traffic down to one lane in each direction. A new Caterpillar heavy equipment retail site is going in, and Gunterson says the westbound lanes are especially congested for drivers coming off the freeway onto Indio Boulevard.

Use Washington Street or Monroe to reach the freeway, and Fred Waring for east/west travel. The project is scheduled to wrap by end of March into early April.

Good News: BNP Paribas Open Traffic is Over

With the tennis tournament wrapped up, the heavy congestion along Highway 111 and Washington Street is gone. Gunterson says crews are still out collecting traffic control equipment, so watch for signage and workers near the roadway as they finish clearing out.

As always, a little planning goes a long way. Check real-time traffic conditions and construction updates at cv-sync.com before you head out, and give yourself extra cushion anywhere crews are active.
