Papa Dan’s Reopens in Palm Desert After Two-Year Rebuild, Welcomed Back by Packed Crowd

A beloved Coachella Valley institution is back in business. Papa Dan’s officially reopened its doors in Palm Desert tonight after a two-year rebuilding process following a fire that destroyed the original restaurant.

The grand opening drew a packed crowd, with customers filling the pizzeria from wall to wall, eager to once again enjoy a longtime local favorite. From dine-in guests to those grabbing pizzas to go, the turnout highlighted the deep connection the community has with the restaurant.

Earlier in the day, a ribbon-cutting ceremony brought out more than 100 patrons along with Palm Desert city officials to celebrate the reopening. Many longtime customers shared their excitement and emotional connection to the restaurant, describing it as more than just a place to eat.

“It feels like family,” one patron said. “The smells, the atmosphere—it just feels like home.”

Papa Dan’s has been a staple in the Coachella Valley for nearly five decades, and its absence over the past two years was felt across the community. Owner Ira Mosley said the rebuilding process came with significant challenges, but the overwhelming support from locals made it all worthwhile.

“It really is humbling,” Mosley said. “I knew we always had community support, but I didn’t expect anything like this.”

Even before the official opening, lines began forming early in the morning, with customers sticking around after the ceremony to be among the first served.

Mosley added that despite the difficulties over the past two years, the moment made everything worth it. “If I had to do it again just because of today, I would have,” he said.

As hugs, handshakes, and smiling faces filled the restaurant, it was clear that Papa Dan’s return means more to the community than just pizza—it marks the revival of a cherished gathering place.
