UFW, César Chávez Foundation Withdraw from César Chávez Day Events Amid Allegations
The United Farm Workers and the César Chávez Foundation announced they will not participate in this year’s César Chávez Day events following the release of new allegations involving late labor leader César Chávez.
In a joint statement, both organizations cited what they described as “troubling allegations,” including claims of possible abuse involving young women or minors.
The groups emphasized they do not have firsthand knowledge confirming the allegations, but said the nature of the claims is serious enough to warrant further review.
They added, “allegations that very young women or girls may have been victimized are crushing,” underscoring the gravity of the situation.
In response, the organizations are working to establish a confidential channel for individuals to come forward and share their experiences.
Instead of participating in celebrations this year, the United Farm Workers is encouraging supporters to focus on community service and continued advocacy for farm workers.
Officials say the shift reflects a commitment to accountability while continuing the broader mission of supporting farmworker rights and communities.
