Xavier Prep Summit Week Explores Consumerism and Ethical Business Practices
Students at Xavier College Preparatory are stepping beyond the classroom this week as part of their annual Summit Week, an immersive program designed to explore real-world issues. This year’s theme centers on consumerism, examining how mass consumption shapes American culture and how it differs from capitalism.
Throughout the week, students are engaging in hands-on learning experiences and discussions aimed at broadening their understanding of complex economic and social topics. A key highlight included a guest speaker from the University of San Diego, who spoke about responsible consumerism and ethical business practices. The speaker emphasized the importance of balancing profit with social responsibility and encouraged students to think critically about the impact of their choices.
Organizers say Summit Week is designed to inspire students to become thoughtful leaders by connecting classroom lessons to real-world challenges. The program also provides an opportunity for students to interact with professionals and gain insight into potential career paths.
Students responded with enthusiasm, with many expressing interest in making a positive impact on society. The speaker noted that young people today bring energy, optimism, and a strong desire to create meaningful change.
The event continues through the week with additional topics, including consumerism in media and the ethics of retail practices, giving students a well-rounded look at how consumption influences everyday life.
