Palm Springs Cooling Centers Now Open as Excessive Heat Warning Hits the Valley

With an Excessive Heat Warning in effect for the Coachella Valley through Saturday, March 21, the City of Palm Springs has opened cooling centers for residents looking to escape the heat.

Two locations are currently available. The James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Palm Springs Public Library's temporary location at Rimrock Plaza is open Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m., though closing times vary: Mondays and Thursdays close at 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. The library is closed Sundays.

Pets are welcome at both locations, though dogs must be on a leash and cats in carriers. For residents who are unhoused, the Palm Springs Access Center will also serve as a cooling center.

The city is reminding everyone to stay hydrated, check on neighbors who may need extra help, and never leave pets in a parked car.

For more information, call the Unity Center at (760) 323-8271 or the library at (760) 322-7323.
