Train Derails Near Salton Sea in North Shore, Leaving Cars Off Tracks

A train derailment has pushed multiple cargo cars off its tracks, leaving some partially in the sand near the Salton Sea.

The incident was reported just before 6 p.m. near Parkside Drive in North Shore. Early information indicates several train cars came loose and slid off the rails.

Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the derailment, and it remains unclear if there are any injuries at this time.

Crews are actively assessing the situation, with a helicopter seen flying overhead to evaluate the extent of the damage. NBC Palm Springs has reached out to Union Pacific Railroad for additional details.
