Gas Leak Closes Washington Street in La Quinta

A portion of Washington Street is closed in La Quinta this morning, as crews work to repair a gas leak in the area. Firefighters received a report of a gas main leak at 7:42 a.m. Thursday, near the 47000 block of Washington Street, just south of Avenue 47.

The leak is coming from a 2-inch gas main and is affecting a nearby commercial building. Riverside County Fire Department has called in SoCalGas, Environmental Health, and the RVC Fire HazMat team to help contain and clean up the situation.

Both lanes of Washington Street are currently closed and will stay shut down until the incident is resolved. No injuries have been reported.

Updates are expected as crews work to mitigate the leak.
