Palm Springs American Legion Hosts Robert Shipe Memorial Golf Tournament to Support Youth Baseball

American Legion Post 519 in Palm Springs is gearing up for its second annual Robert Shipe Memorial Scramble Golf Championship this Saturday in Cathedral City. The event, honoring World War II veteran and longtime Palm Springs resident Robert Shipe, will be held at Date Palm Country Club, starting at 9 a.m.

The two-man scramble tournament raises funds for American Legion Youth Baseball, helping provide local children with equipment, uniforms, and opportunities to participate in organized baseball programs. Participants also have a chance to win prizes, including a baseball and bat signed by MLB legend Steve Garvey, a former American Legion baseball player. Nearly half of Major League Baseball players have roots in the American Legion, highlighting the organization’s role in fostering young talent.

For those unable to attend the event, donations can still be made online through the American Legion Palm Springs website. The tournament continues the American Legion’s long tradition of supporting youth and community programs while honoring veterans like Robert Shipe.
