Palm Springs Police Chief Signals He's on His Way Out

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills is making moves toward his exit, announcing on social media Thursday that he and his wife have listed their home for sale and that he is searching for his "next mission," though he was clear he has not resigned or retired.

"Now it's time to find my next mission," Mills wrote in the post, adding that he still has "fire in my belly and passion in my heart to lead." He said he is focused on preparing the department for the transition ahead and promised to stay transparent as the process unfolds.

Mills, who has led the department since 2021, pointed to several accomplishments during his tenure, including reduced crime, improved quality of life in the city, and a fully staffed police force. He credited his leadership team, describing them as "compassionate and strong leaders" who are ready to carry the department forward without him.

He also praised City Manager Scott Stiles and the City Council, saying it is rare to find that level of support from elected officials.

Mills did not announce a specific timeline or say where he is potentially headed next.
