Indio Promotes 26-Year Veteran to Lead New Water and Maintenance Department

The City of Indio has appointed Miguel Peña as its new Director of Water Utility & Maintenance, a position created to bring water operations, streets, parks, landscaping, fleet, and city facilities under one roof. Peña starts Monday, March 23.
Peña has spent 26-years working for the city and currently serves as Chief Operator for Indio Water. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from the University of La Verne, along with California's highest water distribution certification, a Grade 5, as well as certifications in public works management, inspection, and utility supervision. The city says he was chosen from a competitive pool of candidates.
The new position is designed to better coordinate services across Indio as the city continues to grow, and Peña's appointment is also tied to the city's five-year strategic plan.
"Miguel's commitment to excellence and deep understanding of our community's water infrastructure are unmatched," City Manager Bryan H. Montgomery said. "His leadership and expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable and efficient delivery of vital water services while maintaining the City's critical assets."
