Students at College of the Desert Can Apply for Paid Fellowship

PALM DESERT (CNS) - Students at College of the Desert may apply today
for a paid fellowship that offers real-wold professional opportunities and help
reduce college debt.

College Corps is a program part of the statewide Californians For All
initiative led by California Volunteers and the Office of the Governor.

``College Corps offers students a meaningful way to get involved both
on campus and in the local community,'' Jocelyn Vargas, manager of the Basic
Needs Center on campus, said in a statement. ``Many of our fellows find the
experience incredibly rewarding and take pride in giving back while building
valuable skills.''

Student fellows may earn up to $7,000 for a living stipend and up to
$3,000 education award after completing 450 hours of community service work in
the Coachella Valley. Officials said fellows contribute thousands of volunteer
hours each year to numerous organizations, including Find Food Bank.

The school has secured up to $2.52 million in grant funding that will
support the program for three years, and has delivered $1,284,000 directly to
students.

Eligible students must currently be enrolled full time at College of
the Desert and remain in good academic standing, have a high school diploma or
an equivalent by August, able to commit to the program for a full academic year
and must qualify for either a federal pell grant or a state cal grant.

Those who wish to apply must submit an application by April 1 at
www.collegeofthedesert.edu/students/basic-needs/college-corps.php.
