United Airlines Cutting Flights as Iran War Sends Fuel Prices Soaring

If you're planning to fly soon, expect fewer choices. United Airlines announced Friday it will cut flights in response to surging fuel costs tied to the ongoing war in Iran.

In a memo to staff, the CEO said the cuts will focus on less popular routes, including mid-week and overnight flights. Jet fuel prices have more than doubled since the war began in late February, and the airline says that surge could cost United an extra $11 billion this year alone.

The cuts are a direct hit to travelers who rely on those off-peak options, often the more affordable or convenient choices for working families and budget-conscious flyers.
