Court Hearing Delayed Again in Death of Indio Nurse Anabel Sanchez

Family members and friends of Anabel Sanchez gathered in court Monday for what was expected to be a pretrial hearing in her case. Instead, they were met with another delay.

The hearing in People v. Abraham Neil Seidman was postponed, leaving Sanchez’s loved ones frustrated and still searching for answers more than a year after her death.

Outside the Indio Larson Justice Center, emotions ran high as family and supporters walked out of the courthouse disappointed.

The case stems from a deadly crash that occurred on January 10, 2025, in Indio. According to Meraz, Sanchez was walking along a sidewalk connecting the courthouse to the John Benoit Detention Center when she was struck and killed by a vehicle.

A memorial for Sanchez still stands at the crosswalk where the incident happened.

On Monday, her family, friends, and coworkers arrived expecting movement in the case. Instead, they faced yet another setback - a rescheduling to June 1st.

Loved ones say Sanchez was more than a nurse — she was a compassionate presence in her community. She worked at JFK Memorial Hospital and also served at the nearby detention center, touching countless lives.

Meanwhile, the defense maintains the incident was not criminal. Seidman’s attorney described the crash as a tragic accident, adding that his client expresses his condolonces to the Sanchez family and has been cooperative with authorities.

Court records show Seidman pleaded not guilty on February 13 to one count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. His attorney has also requested additional evidence, including law enforcement body camera footage, as the case proceeds.

The next court hearing is scheduled for June 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the Indio Larson Justice Center.

Sanchez’s family says they will continue to show up — and continue to push for accountability.
