Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Closes Tuesday For Scheduled Maintenance

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will be shut down Tuesday, March 24, for scheduled maintenance, with plans to reopen Wednesday, March 25.

Maintenance crews will use the closure to shorten the counter haul ropes on the tram cars. Vice President of Tramway Systems Chris Bartsch says this is a routine step that follows any new rope installation. "Whenever a new haul rope is installed, shortening is always required after several months due to the natural stretch that occurs," Bartsch said. The tramway put in a new haul rope during its annual preventative maintenance closure back in October.

Officials expect the attraction to be back up and running by Wednesday.
